movie review app

about.

This app was the winning project of a hackathon: a movie tracking and review app that allows users to log the films they watch, rate them, and write personal reviews, integrated with a ticket purchase platform.

Inspired by applications such as Letterboxd, it differentiates itself by being connected to the largest cinema ticket-selling website in Brazil. Each time a user buys a cinema ticket and watches a film, the system automatically logs it, creating a personal film journal.

challenge.

The main challenge was designing a seamless user flow integrated with an external ticketing platform, ensuring a frictionless transition between the two services. It was essential to avoid creating barriers for users of the purchase platform while introducing this new experience.

To address this, we implemented multiple entry points, including push notifications, email invitations, and in-app prompts, enabling users to easily access the app at the right moment in their journey.

This approach significantly improved user adoption, ensuring a smooth onboarding experience and increasing engagement with the platform.

result.

The final version delivered a robust library of films automatically logged based on users’ ticket purchases. Users could also manually add other films, but those watched in cinemas through the integrated ticketing platform were highlighted with a distinctive “gold badge,” reinforcing authenticity and engagement.

Future iterations of the product include features such as a personalized yearly “wrapped” retrospective, showcasing users’ viewing habits and highlights, along with additional enhancements to deepen engagement and user retention.
